Janet Pearl Marshall
Janet was a 1962 graduate of Onaway High School. She worked as a substitute teacher for many years and also had worked for the the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census for the decennial census. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, berry picking, and canning. She volunteered her time working for food banks. Janet was strong in her Seventh Day Adventist faith and was a member of the Onaway church for over 50 years. Janet was especially close with her family and enjoyed spending time with her nephew and nieces and their families.
Surviving is her sister and best friend, Shirley E. Gager of Onaway and Berrien Springs; brother, James Henry Marshall of Onaway and Berrien Springs; nieces, Rhonda S. Gager of Berrien Springs, Renee C. (Randy) Truax and their children, Christina and Ethan of Wayland, Rachelle L. (Jess) Swackhamer and their children, Kayleigh and Carson of Berrien Springs, and Rebecca L. (Jeff) Forsythe of Buchanan; and nephew, Raymond C. Gager of Zephyrhills, FL. Janet is also survived by step-brothers, Harold Jensen, Jr. of Flint and Jim Jensen of Cocoa, FL; step-sisters, Irene (Gordan) Buerger of Theodore, AL and Pearl Herner of Cocoa, FL; uncles, Dick Varcoe of the Detroit area, Don Varcoe of Farmington Hills and Roy (Beverly) Varcoe of Fowlerville, as well as, many cousins and friends, including Barbara and Peter Middaugh of Onaway.
Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel (Varcoe) Jensen on January 25, 2011; her step-father, Harold Jensen; step-brothers, Bob and Darwin Jensen; and grandparents, Pearl and Daniel Burgess.
Visitation will be held at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway on Thursday January 5, 2012 from 3 pm – 7 pm. Raymond Preston and Priest Carol Latsch will officiate the funeral service on Friday January 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Chagnon Funeral Home. All are invited to a dinner to be held immediately after the funeral service at the Allis Township Hall. Janet will be laid to rest next to her mother at Elmwood Cemetery in Onaway. Donations to honor the memory of Janet Pearl Marshall should be given to the Onaway Ambulance Equipment Fund.
