Evelyn Marie Bishop

Jul. 22, 1927 - Apr. 20, 2012

Evelyn (Barnby) Bishop, age 84, lifelong resident of Onaway, died on Friday April 20, 2012 at Medilodge of Hillman.  Evelyn, the daughter of Frank and Lavona (Hunt) Barnby was born in Cheboygan, Michigan on July 22, 1927.  On November 8, 1946 she married Lawrence Bishop in Saginaw.

Evelyn was a homemaker, but also worked at Plymouth Industries of Cheboygan and then as an assembler at Essex Wire in Atlanta.  For many years she was a member of the Tower Baptist Church and later attended church at the Onaway Baptist Chapel.  Evelyn's favorite pastime was gardening.  She enjoyed vegetable gardening and flower gardening.  She was an expert when it came to growing roses and always had the most beautiful rose bushes.  She was a wonderful cook and baker.  Evelyn's greatest love was for her family.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Surviving are Evelyn's husband of 65 years, Lawrence of Hillman; daughter, Bonnie (Greg) Wang of Onaway; son, Larry (Brenda) Bishop, also of Onaway; and four grandchildren, Harley Wang, Andy, Aaron, and Ashlee Bishop.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her grandson, Kirt Wang; great grandchildren, Steven, Sarah, Naleah, Emily, and Joseph Gregory; brothers, Frank and Menzo Barnby; sisters, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Elaine, and Eunice; and an infant brother, Arthur Barnby.

Visitation will be held at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway on Monday April 23, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.  Pastor Jim Killion will officiate.  Evelyn's final resting place will be in Tower at Forest Lawn Cemetery.  Her family has suggested that donations in memory of Evelyn be given to Hospice of Michigan Northeast Region or to the Resident Activities Fund at Medilodge of Hillman.

    Bonnie and family,

I will always remember reading your moms letters to mom , she enjoyed them immensley and I couldn't wait to find out what she was baking each time the letter was opened. Mom always called Evelyn her twin being born on the same date, although I only remember meeting you and your mom once, we definetly heard lots about all of you. So now perhaps our moms are together growing roses and eating sweets and reminicing.
