Melba Geraldine Byrnes, age 83 of Bonita Springs, Florida, formerly of Onaway, died April 26, 2006 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center: St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Kansas. Melba was born in Onaway on April 9, 1923 to Benjamin and Myrtle (Platts) Gaudette. On October 14, 1944 she was married to Walter Byrnes in North Carolina. Melba grew up in Onaway and graduated from Onaway High School. After graduation Melba joined the U.S. Marine Corp. After the Marines, Melba lived for many years in New York State where she was a homemaker and also worked for the State as a parole clerk. In 1985 she returned to her hometown of Onaway where she lived until 1992 when she moved to the warmer climate of Florida. Melba enjoyed going to Bingo, reading, and crafting. She also enjoyed the various activities at the retirement village where she lived in Florida. Melba will be sadly missed by her daughters, Sandra Rudy of El Dorado, Kansas and Patricia (John) Buhler of Vancouver, British Columbia; son, Brian (Charla) Byrnes of Clearwater, Kansas; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; son, Patrick Byrnes; sisters, Bea McGinn and Ruth Larson; and brothers, Paul, Lloyd, Earl, Tony, and Frank Gaudette. |
