JoAnn Chaskey, age 70 of Onaway, died April 20, 2006 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. JoAnn was born in Lansing on August 2, 1935 to Harry and Helen (Morgan) Wiggins. On June 18, 1966 she was married to James Chaskey in Rogers City. Joann retired from the Cheboygan, Otsego, Presque Isle Intermediate School District in 1991 where she worked as a media clerk. She lived in the Onaway area most of her life and was a member of the Black Lake Sportsman's Club and a league bowler at Nautical Lanes in Rogers City. JoAnn enjoyed going to Bingo, bowling, camping, traveling, throwing horseshoes, doing crafts, and spending time with her family and friends. She was like a second mother to many people and loved to have the house full of her kids, grandkids, and all their friends. JoAnn will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 40 years, Jim of Onaway; daughter, Rebecca (Kirk) Newsted of Onaway; sons, Leaton (Judy) Stevens of Onaway; Ed Stevens of Onaway; Dale (Pat Fellabaum) Stevens of Onaway; Clay (Jeanie) Stevens of Onaway; Tom "TJ" (Diane) Baker of Spokane, Washington and Mike Chaskey of Onaway; step-sons, James (Ginny) Chaskey of Sunland, California and Rodney (Glenda) Chaskey of St. Clair Shores; step-daughter, Leticia Walters of Onaway; grandchildren, Ashley, Leaton, Cassey, Kirk, Conner, Gwen, Jim, Brian, Teresa, Frank, Corrie, J.R., Jillian, Jesse, Joanie, and Briar; and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leaton Stevens (1962); brother, Harry "Sonny" Wiggins Jr; and sisters, Marge Walters; Betty Lyotte; Nellie Silverthorn and Gert Farero. |
