Elizabeth J. Freel, age 88 a life long resident of Millersburg, went Home to be with her Lord, January 14, 2006. Betty was born in Millersburg on January 31, 1917 to Frank and Lucy (Steele) Mills. On November 13, 1936 she was married to Neil Freel in Pontiac. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved being with her family and friends. Betty also liked being outdoors, especially going camping and fishing with Neil and their children. She was an excellent cook and baker and she always loved a party. Betty enjoyed bowling and was a league member of The Wildcats in Rogers City for many years. The Ocqueoc Baptist Church was a very important part of Betty's life. She was a very active member, playing the organ, serving on the music committee and singing in the choir. Betty worked at the Millersburg Elementary School for many years as a teacher's aid and always played the piano for the school's Christmas Program. She will be sadly missed by her son, Alan (Darlene) Freel of Alpena; daughters, Gail (Claude) Hyde of Onaway; Kay (Charles) Rhode of Hawks and Julie (Arnie) Vermilya of Millersburg; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sandy Freel of Millersburg; sister, Phyllis (Don) Higgins of Saginaw; and brother, John (Marge) Mills of Millersburg. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Neil; twin sons, Dean and Dale; 5 sisters; and a brother. |
