Wilber Gray Harman, age 95 of Black Lake, died February 6, 2006 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital's Larson Hall. Gray was born in Onaway on September 18, 1910 to Louis and Jessie (Hopper) Harman. On November 14, 1930 he was married to Mildred Pettit in Alpena. Gray was a lifelong resident of Onaway. He was a graduate of Onaway High School and also attended and played basketball for Michigan State in 1927. Gray owned the Onaway Standard Gas Station for 45 years and then worked at Painter Petroleum after he sold the station. He was an active member of his community. He served on the Board at Presque Isle Electric, was involved with the Onaway Chamber of Commerce, and founded the Onaway Sports Boosters Program. Gray loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, especially for lake trout, solving crossword puzzles, working in his flower gardens, and cooking. Gray will be sadly missed by his sons, Bill (Londa) Harman of Onaway; Morford (Arlene) Harman of Black Lake and Doug (Simone) Harman of Florida; daughters, Kathy (Floyd) Booth of Onaway; Barbara Robbins of Black Lake and Linda (Butch) Hall of Tower; 21 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and 8 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (1988); infant sister, Virginia; and son-in-law, Glenn Robbins. |
