Delano "Fats" Franklin Mason, age 73 of Tower, died February 11, 2006 at his home. Fats was born in Tower on November 11, 1932 to John Robert and Martha (Latsch) Mason. On January 25, 1980 he was married to Penny Bonnard at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onaway. Fats was a lifelong resident of Tower and worked as a foreman and lineman for Eden's Linemen. Before becoming a lineman he worked as a mechanic and was on of the first mechanics in Onaway to be able to work on an automatic transmission. Fats was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and served in the Army during peacetime. He found enjoyment in hunting, fishing, playing cards, working on cars, gardening, cooking and canning. He loved music and was a talented musician who could play almost any instrument and played most songs by ear. Fats will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Penny of Tower; daughters, Anna (Derek) McCombs of Traverse City; Debbie (Leon) Nash of Onaway; Judy (Rod) Morgan of Onaway; Theresa (Tim) Lietaert of Tower and Connie (Rich) Aown of Hartland; sons, Tony (Jolene) Mason of Millersburg; Terry (Terese) Mason of Suttons Bay; John (Lisa) Mason of Gillette, Wyoming and Joseph Mason of Tower; 28 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his brothers, Marvin (Gladys) Mason of Tower; Lloyd (June) Mason of Tower and Owen (Carol) Mason of Onaway; twin brother, Franklin Delano (Alice) Mason of Kalamazoo; sisters, Helen Waldie of Tower; Isabelle DeRosia of Onaway and Renatta (Erwin) Ganske of Onaway; and mother-in-law, Hazel Bonnard of Onaway. Fats was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Maben Gage and Melba Covell; brothers, Edward and Earl Mason; and father-in-law, Stanley Bonnard. |
