Robert Neil McArthur, age 82 of Tower, died June 10, 2006 at the home of his daughter. Bob was born in Deford on April 29, 1924 to John and Amanda Mae (Gillis) McArthur. On August 16, 1947 he was married to Lila Dunsmore in Tower. Bob was raised in the Pontiac area and moved to the Tower area in 1947. He worked as the manager of Black River Products in Onaway before the company closed. He then went to work as the service manager for the Ford Dealership in Cheboygan for several years and eventually went into business for himself as the owner and operator of McArthur's Sales and Service in Tower. Bob was a veteran of WWII and served in the Navy in the South Pacific. He was a life member of the Onaway VFW Post 5857. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and cribbage, and going blackberry and raspberry picking with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed a good baseball game and liked to throw horseshoes. "Bondo Bob" will long be remembered for his sense of humor and the many jokes he played on his friends and family. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Lila of Tower; daughter, Kay (Chuck) Kimbrell of Onaway; granddaughters, Heather Markey of Onaway and Misty (John) McKenzie of Onaway; grandson, Shane (Rachel) Kimbrell of Cheboygan; 7 great grandchildren, Katlin, Reagan, Griffin, Jordan, Jaycee, Luke, and Maggie; and all of his friends at the local coffe shop. Bob was preceded in death by his son, Danny McArthur (1963); 2 brothers; and 2 sisters. |
