Carl Franklin Space, age 82 of Onaway, died January 29, 2006 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. Carl was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on December 19, 1923 to John and Maud Space. On October 31, 1969 he was married to Doris Jean in Livonia. Carl was an electrician in Livonia until 1970 when he and Doris moved to Onaway. He then worked at the UAW Center and retired in 1986. Carl served in the Navy and fought in WWII. He was very proud of his service to his country. Carl loved guns. He enjoyed making powder horns for numerous people from all over the world and won many muzzleloader shooting awards. Carl was a member of the Black Lake Sportsman's Club and the East Jordan Sportsman's Club. He and Doris traveled all over the state to attend Black Powder Rendezvous'. Carl also loved to hunt and fish, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Doris of Onaway; sons, Carl Space of Wixom and John Space of Harsens Island; daughter, Sylvia (Joseph) Verville of Cheboygan; grandchildren, Joseph, Trisha and Sara Verville of Cheboygan; step-sons, John Starks of California; Larry (Mary) Starks of Nevada; Ronald Starks of Grand Rapids; Anthony Starks of Alabama and Charles (Beth) Starks of Traverse City; ste-daughter, Jeanne (Harold) Follman of Sebring; and brother, William Space of Hale. Carl was preceded in death by his parents. |
