Owen LeRoy "Dude" Mason, age 82 of Tower, died July 9, 2007 at Lois's Adult Foster Care Home in Onaway. Owen was born in Forest Township on January 26, 1925 to John Robert and Martha (Latsch) Mason. On July 15, 1950 he was married to Carol VanZant at the Cheboygan Lutheran Parsonage. Owen was a lifelong resident of the Onaway area and retired from Presque Isle Electric where he worked as a surveyor and laborer. He was a veteran of WWII serving the United States Army in the Philippines. Owen was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Onaway and a past member of the Onaway VFW Post 5857. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and farming. Owen will be sadly missed by his loving wife of almost 57 years, Carol of Tower; sons, Tim (Pam) Mason of Tower and Mick (Rea) Mason of Onaway; grandchildren, Sarah Mason of Detroit, Shannon Mason of Tower and Justin and Ashley Mason of Onaway; brothers, Marvin (Gladys) and Lloyd (June) Mason both of Tower and Franklin Delano (Alice) Mason of Kalamazoo; sisters, Helen Waldie of Tower, Isabelle DeRosia and Renatta (Erwin) Ganske both of Onaway; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward, Earl and Delano Franklin "Fats" Mason; and sisters, Maben Gage and Melba Covell. |
