Betty Lou McDowell, age 87 of Onaway, formerly of Pontiac, died April 17, 2007 at the Alpena Regional Medical Center. Betty was born in Saginaw on October 23, 1919 to Edward and Lulu (Gilboe) McBride. On April 30, 1938 she was married to Jack McDowell in Elkhart, Indiana. Betty worked as a chemist at Pontiac Motors for several years and moved to Onaway in 1975. She was a lifetime member of the Onaway VFW Ladies Auxiliary and had a passion for tutoring children with learning disabilities and teaching adults how to read. Betty also enjoyed watching the birds, painting, collecting rocks and minerals, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Gary (Janet) McDowell of Adrian and Rick (Jeanne) McDowell of Onaway; daughter, Rita (Glendon) of Petoskey; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack (1990); 2 brothers; and a sister. |
