Floyd S. Porter, age 89 of Onaway, died November 8, 2007 at Tendercare Health Center of Cheboygan. Floyd was born in Sparta on May 29, 1918 to Septimus and Laura (VonBerg) Porter. On October 20, 1937 he was married to Sibyl Burnham in South Bend, Indiana. Floyd lived in the Onaway area most of his life. He worked at lumber camps in the Upper Penninsula, spent many years driving truck, and will best be remembered around the area as an evergreen bough dealer. Floyd enjoyed camping and hunting. He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Janice (Fred) Cassens of Florida, Jill Dunn and Kay (Bill) Dymond both of Onaway, and Tammy Olson of Alpena; sons, Tim (Annette) and Steve (Lynn) Porter both of Onaway; 28 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sisters, Esther Hall and Joan (Jim) Badgero both of Onaway. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry; wife, Sibyl; brothers, Georgie and Howard Porter; and son-in-law, Dick Dunn. |
