John Daniel Ramsey, age 79 of Onaway, formerly of Sterling Heights, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. John was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on June 19, 1928 to Daniel Boone and Dolla (Damron) Ramsey. On August 8, 1953 he was married to Freida L. Small in Reno, Nevada. The couple resided in Sterling Heights until 2001 when they moved to Onaway. John worked as the head chef for Hutzel Hospital until his retirement in 1987. He was a Korean War Veteran serving the United States Army Air Corp. John enjoyed watching horse racing, restoring antique cars, fishing, camping, and traveling. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Freida Ramsey of Onaway, sons, Robert and John Ramsey both of Onaway; daughters, Brenda (Victor) Perry of Onaway, Linda (Gerald) Czarnecki of Marlette, and Denise Ramsey of Rose City; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers, Ed (Bobby Jean) Ramsey of Ohio, Noble (Catherine) Ramsey of Pontiac, Gobel (Ginger) Ramsey of Florida, Ronnie (Gail) and Randall (Georgia) Ramsey both of Kentucky; and Murdock Bowling also of Kentucky; sisters, Peggy (Jim) Damron of Kentucky, and Sybil (Dave) Martinez and Georgia (Stan) Swenson both of California. John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Renata Ramsey; sister, Agnes Bowling; and brother, Boonie Ramsey. |
