Obituaries

Phyllis Ann (Faircloth) Stone, age 75 of Black Lake passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 at her home. Phyllis was born in Onaway on February 26, 1931 to Ernest and Edna (Eldridge) Faircloth. On May 30, 1950 she was married to Jerry M. Stone in Indiana. Phyllis was born and raised in the Onaway area and was a retired teacher of 35 years, having taught 10 years in early elementary and vocal music in the Tower, Millersburg and Onaway Schools. She also taught in Pontiac, Florida, Alpena and Grand Rapids. She won many state level awards as a vocal teacher while in Onaway. Phyllis earned her B.S. degree from Eastern Michigan University and her Masters from Western Michigan University. She was a life member of the National Education Association, M.A.R.S.P., and the International Society of Poets. She loved to play Bingo, knit, and was a very talented musician. She also enjoyed living at Black Lake. Phyllis will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 56 years, Jerry of Black Lake; daughters, Jalon (Dan) Skinner of Cheboygan and Kim (John) Wagner of Grand Rapids; son, Jerry M. Stone, II of Cheboygan; grandchildren, Jeff Neuman, Jerry M. "Jake" Stone, April and Shawna Wagner; and 3 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her nephews, Paul (Cheryl) and Daniel (Kim) Faircloth both of Cheboygan; niece, Kathleen Faircloth of Cheboygan; and her dog, Buddy. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul (Veronica) Faircloth; and sisters, Elsie and Grace Faircloth.
