Frank J. Schell, age 92 of Black Lake (Onaway), died October 5, 2008 at Wynwood of Meridian Assisted Living in Haslett.
Frank was born on November 12, 1915 to Charles J. Sr. and Barbara (Sauer) Schell. He was born and raised in Grace, Bearinger Township, Michigan at the Schell family farm. As a young man he worked at the CCC camp in Ocqueoc. On January 25, 1941 he was married to Jeannette A. Mero at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Onaway.
In 1975, after spending 35 years in the Bay City area working as a residential builder (Frank Schell Builders) and raising their family of four, Frank and Jeannette returned to their hometown of Onaway and resided at Black Lake for their retirement years. Frank was an active parishioner of St. Paul's Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, a member of the Men's Club, and an usher. In Bay City, Frank was active with the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and church ushers. He also was a founding member and past vice president of the Bay County Builders Association. Frank enjoyed farming and gardening, tending to his apple trees and grapevines, smelt dipping, and hunting. He also liked to fix up old bikes and tricycles for grandchildren when they were young.
Frank will be sadly missed by his daughters, Susan Trojanowicz of Holt and Anne (Jonathon) Scott of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; sons, William (Karen) Schell of Okemos and James Schell of Essexville; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette (July 12, 1999) and brothers, Charlie, Joe, and William Schell; sister, Elizabeth Kelly; and son-in-law, Robert Trojanowicz.
