Gerald B. Dunbar, age 67, lifelong resident of Onaway, died suddenly on November 30, 2009 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. Jerry was born on March 26, 1942 in Charlton Township, Otsego County to Bruce and Mary Katherine (Freeman) Dunbar. He grew up in the Onaway area, graduated from Onaway High School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1964.
On April 1, 1961 Jerry married Rose Marie Bobola in Onaway. The made their home in Forest Township a few miles west of Onaway. Jerry worked in Cheboygan for Proctor and Gamble for 26 years before he went to work for the Department of Fish and Wildlife where he worked for 15 years befoe his retirement in 2004.
Jerry enjoyed playing cards, gardening, hunting, and trout fishing the streams and rivers in the area. He liked to shoot pool and was on the Northland Bar Men's Pool League for many years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. Jerry enjoyed helping his family, friends, and neighbors with anything that he could help them with.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 48 years, Rose Dunbar, of Onaway; daughters, Barb (Tony) LaCombe of Carp Lake and Anne (Pat) Quinn of Detroit; son, Steve (Pam) Dunbar of Madras, Oregon; and 6 grandchildren, Carmen, Rachel, Brooke, A.J., Michael and Paige. Also surviving Jerry are his 2 brothers, John (Maggie) Dunbar of Onaway and Sherly (Josie) Dunbar of Lillian, Alabama; 3 sisters, Janice (Bob) St. Clair of Onaway, Norma Hudson of Cheboygan, and Jeanie Allen of Whitmore Lake; brothers-in-law, Robert (Pat) Bobola and Tom (Sue) Bobola, both of Onaway; sister-in-law, Doris (Earl) Jarvis of Alpena; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Preceding Jerry in death are his parents; brothers, Arden and Earl Dunbar, sister, Leila Rosenberg; brother-in-law, Dick Hudson; and sister-in-law, Carol Bobola. |
