Elizabeth "Liz" Kazlauskas, age 89, of Onaway died on Monday December 28, 2009 at home. Elizabeth was born on June 19, 1920 in Sopronban, Hungary to Mihaly "Michael" and Erzsebettel "Elizabeth" (Gerdenits) Hadfi. On March 6, 1948 Liz married Antanas "Tony" Kazlauskas in Bomberg City, Germany. In 1951, they moved from Germany to the United States to live in Detroit, Michigan. Elizabeth worked at HyGrade Meats in Detroit as meat slicer and packager until her retirement in 1977. In 1980 Liz and Tony moved permanently to Onaway where they had owned property since late 1960's. Elizabeth loved Northern Michigan and the outdoors. She liked watching the birds, deer, and other wildlife that came into her yard. She also enjoyed crocheting, was a wonderful baker, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elizabeth was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Onaway and was devoted to her Catholic faith.
Elizabeth will be sadly missed by her husband of nearly 62 years, Antanas Kazlauskas of Onaway; sons, Daniel (Joni) and Anthony of Onaway; daughter, Genie (Mark) Sikora of Thompson Station, TN; seven grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brother, Jeno "Eugene" Hadfi and sister, Hermina "Minna" Belane Nagy, both of Hungary. Preceding Liz in death are three sons, Viktor Kazlauskas in 1988, Albert and Warner; daughter, Regina; and brother, Mihaly Hadfi.
A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Chagnon Funeral Home. Led by Sandy Breed who brought communion to Elizabeth so many times. Elizabeth's final resting place will be at North Allis Township Cemetery just a few miles from her home. The interment will not take place until the spring. |
