Hugh L. Coats, Jr., age 88 of Stewart Beach, Black Lake and Minnetonka, Minnesota, died July 1, 2009 at his home on Black Lake. Hugh was born in Geneva, Illinois on June 19, 1921 to Hugh L., Sr. and Lenore Marie (Rodgers) Coats. On June 9, 1944 he was married to Margaret "Marnie" Knight in Wheaton, Illinois. First Lieutenant Hugh Coats honorably served his country in the United States Air Corp. During World War II, Hugh was a flight instructor at West Point-Stewart Field. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force on July 19, 1955. In the early 1980's, Hugh retired from Flexible Steel Lacing Company of Downer's Grove, Illinois where he worked as a sales engineer. Hugh enjoyed antiquing and restoring antiques, woodworking, and flying remore control airplanes. He was especially fond of Black Lake and loved spending summers at the cottage on Stewart Beach. Hugh had been coming to Black Lake since 1933. He will be sadly missed by his son, David Coats, of Plymouth, Minnesota; daughters, Ann (Rob) Canfield of Landenberg, Pennsylvania, Lee (Dick) Minors of Wayzata, Minnesota, and Jan Etters of Vail, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews. Hugh was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marnie (2005); brother, David H. Coats; and sisters, Dorothy Brink, Maxine Coats-Lentz, and June Rohrs. |
