George W. Colburn, age 77 of Afton, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Hospice House of Cheboygan.
George was born in Pontiac on November 9, 1931 to Walter and Mary (Lanway) Colburn. On August 30, 1952 he was married to Mary Jane Clementson in Onaway.
George lived most of his life in Afton. He served in the United States Army as a medic paratrooper during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on June 9, 1955. Throughout his life, he always worked for himself doing various jobs. For several years he traveled between Washington State working in the orchards and Arizona working on the ranches and running irrigation systems.
George enjoyed reading, playing chess and the keyboard. He liked working in the yard and feeding and watching the birds.
George will be sadly missed by his son, Earl George (Ruth) Colburn of Afton; granddaughters, Sandra (Wayne) Maves of Alanson and Stacy (John) Barney and Sharon (Jeff) Hush both of Afton; great grandchildren, Cole, Hanna, Westen, Russell, and Riley; and sisters, Norma Crouch of Florida and Doris Nielson of Washington State.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane on December 1, 2008. |
