John "Jack" W. Ellenberger, age 78 of Onaway, died February 3, 2009 at his home. Jack was born in Waverly Township on January 29, 1931 to Edward and Delia "Flora" (Alvord) Ellenberger. On January 31, 1953 he was married to Ruth Stock at the Ellenberger home in Waverly Township. Jack was a lifelong resident of the Onaway area. He worked as a farmer for many years and also for the DNR in the forestry division. He retired in 1981. Jack enjoyed farming and going to farm sales. He also liked fishing, hunting, and camping. Jack will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Ruth of Onaway; sons, John Ellenberger (Lisa Dempsey) and Doug Ellenberger both of Onaway; daughter, Bonnie (Bob) Mason of Onaway; 11 grandchildren; brother, Edward Ellenberger of Alpena; sisters, Virginia Griffin of Cadillac, Maxine Curvin of Rogers City, Sue (Bob) Altman of Petoskey, and Fay Ellenberger of Alpena; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Ellenberger; mother, Flora Ellenberger Lyon; an infant son; and brother, Leo Ellenberger. |
