Helen M. (France) Horrocks, age 84 of Onaway, died May 11, 2009 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. Helen was born in Cheboygan on July 4, 1924 to Roland and Hedwig (Haidysh) France. On October 3, 1942 she was married to Norris Horrocks, Sr. at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Cheboygan. The couple was married for 56 years at the time of his death in 1998. Helen lived her entire life in Northern Michigan. She was born and raised in Cheboygan, graduated from Cheboygan High School in 1941, and then moved to Onaway where she and her husband made their home and raised a family of their own. Helen worked as a department manager for the Country Star Market and the B & C Grocery Store. She also worked keeping the books for Norris Horrock's and Son's Excavating and the Horrock's Dairy Farm. Helen retired in 1998. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. Helen really enjoyed traveling and especially loved to fly. She and her husband, Norris, visited nearly all 50 states. She also liked to read, do crossword puzzles and was a very good cook. Helen will be sadly missed by her sons, Norris, Jr. (Shirley) Horrocks of Millersburg, Ron (Jean) and Tim (Torry) Horrocks both of Onaway, and Don (Jan) Horrocks of Cheboygan; 8 grandchildren; 18 great granchildren; and sisters, Faith (Max) Morris of Greenville and Josephine "Jo" Therisi of Ann Arbor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris, Sr. (1998); sister, Trudy Robb; and her very special aunt, Veronica Horrocks, who raised Helen from a young age after her mother died. |
