Claude W. Hyde, age 72 of Onaway, died February 17, 2009 at his home. Claude was born in Afton on February 13, 1937 to Clyde and Thelma (Cunningham) Hyde. On May 31, 1958 he was married to Gail Diane Freel at the Methodist Church in Millersburg. Claude was a lifelong resident of the Onaway area. He worked for many years as a lineman for Northern Michigan Electric, retiring in 1983. Claude had also worked for Walter M. Reuther as a security guard before the UAW Education Center opened. He served on many boards, including the Onaway School Board as President, the Waverly Township Board as Treasurer, and the Cheboygan County Road Commission Board. He also was a Free Mason. Claude enjoyed living in Northern Michigan. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and farming. Claude enjoyed the fishing trips to the cabin in Canada. He liked John Deere tractors, throwing horseshoes, and playing softball. He was especially fond of his faithful friend, Sackett, the family dog. Claude will be sadly missed by his sons, Kevin (Kelly McKenzie) Hyde of Cheboygan and Kasey and Kory (Becky) Hyde both of Onaway; daughters, Kelly Hyde Loewe of Lena, Wisconsin and Kristie (Terry) Hutchinson of Onaway and Caro; grandchildren, Jesse, Joshua, Kourtni, Kody, Ryan, and Kaleb; brothers, William (Sharon) Hyde of Alpena and Larry Hyde of Alabama; and sister, Karen (Larry) LeCureux of Onaway. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gail (March 29, 2007); and sister, Barbara Badder. |
