Kenneth Earl LaBelle, age 74, of Onaway passed away February 2, 2009 at home. He was born June 22, 1934 in Lansing to Charles and Mildred (Dunbar) LaBelle.
He lived most of his youth in Onaway, graduating in May of 1951 from Onaway High School. He went to work at Oldsmobile in Lansing, giving 36 years of service, then retiring with his wife, Joyce, to Onaway in 1989. He married Joyce J. Gooden on June 15, 1954 in Angola, IN.
He ran the Cedar Savage Arrow Shop from home in Onaway for 17 years, repairing bows and making arrows for many local bow hunters. Ken’s work at his bow and arrow shop was also his hobby. He enjoyed shooting his bow, bow hunting, and was a member of Michigan Bow Hunters. His other pastimes included fishing and going to the casino. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Joyce, of Onaway; a son, Larry (Nancy) of Laingsburg; a daughter, Debbra (Jim) Simpson of Williamston; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a brother, Ronald LaBelle of Onaway; and sister, Mary (Leonard “Buck”) Johnson of Tower. Preceding Ken in death are his parents; grandson, Kevin LaBelle; sisters, Virginia Dixon and Iris Haas. |
