Stanley "Stosh" T. Mientkiewicz, age 86 of Onaway, died April 25, 2009 at Tendercare Health Center of Rogers City. Stosh was born in Romulus on December 21, 1922 to John and Pauline (Blasczzk) Mientkiewicz. On October 3, 1070 he was married to Ila "Ann" Storey in Dearborn. Stosh moved to the Onaway area from Monroe in 1970. For many years he worked as a bartender at the Tower Tavern and Onaway Bar. Stosh also worked for Green Thumb as a laborer at many of the State Parks and DNR Stations in Northern Michigan, retiring on December 8, 2004. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Stosh also was an active member of the George Garms VFW Post 5857 and served as Post Commander from 1989-1990. CPL. Stanley T. Mientkiewicz proudly and honorably served his country with the 377th Fighter Squadron of the Army Air Corp in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater during WWII. Stosh enjoyed hunting and gardening. He was an animal lover and enjoyed raising many different animals. Stosh will be sadly missed by his wife of 38 years, Ann Mientkiewicz of Onaway; step-sons, Walter (Tammy) Hoeft of Onaway and Brad (Tina) Hoeft of Capac; grandchildren, Riley, Andy, Keri, Megan, Michael, and Holly Hoeft; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Frank, Walter, and Harry Mientkiewicz; and sisters, Mary Zakerski, Anne Lisek, and Helen Rafalski. |
