Joseph George Elick, age 85, of Black Lake (Cheboygan), died unexpectedly at home on January 29, 2010. Joe was born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania on July 18, 1924 to John and Mary (Patchek) Elick. On July 19, 1947 Joe married Karrol Katherine Kemp at St. David's Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan. For many years Joseph worked as a mechanic for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit. While working, he also went to school and eventually became an engineer at Ford. After retirement, Joe and Karrol moved from St. Clair Shores to Black Lake. Joe enjoyed living on the lake, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed small game hunting and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed many golf games at Stoney Links. Joe was a parishioner at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Onaway. During World War Two, Joe served his country in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy. Joseph is survived by one son, Christopher Elick of Cheboygan; four grandsons, J.D. Elick, David Elick, James Elick, and Adam Elick, all of Texas; one granddaughter, Ashley Elick of Arizona; one brother, Theodore "Ted" Elick of Ocqueoc; niece, Sue (Jim) Wickert of Black Lake (Onaway); nephew, Teddy Mike Elick of Allen Park; great niece, Melissa Wickert and great nephew, Zachary Wickert of Black Lake (Onaway); and great nephew, Michael Elick of Allen Park. Preceding Joe in death is his wife Karrol on September 1, 2006; son, David Elick; and niece, Joyce Elick. |
