Daniel Michael Kazlauskas, age 58, of Onaway, died on Thursday February 25, 2010 at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. Daniel was born on May 19. 1951 in Detroit to Antanas "Tony" and Elizabeth "Liz" (Hadfi) Kazlauskas. On July 5, 1986 Dan married Joni D. Riker at the Onaway United Methodist Church. Dan worked for the Ford Motor Company as a machine operator. He retired in 1999 and moved from Livonia to Onaway. Since the 1960's he had spent much of his vacation time and many weekends in Onaway. In 1980 Dan's parents retired to Onaway and Dan would spend weekends visiting them. Dan had many interests. He enjoyed rebuilding and restoring cars, motorcycling, boating, and scuba diving. He also was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a special fondness for animals, especially his dogs, Mr. Topper and Buddy, who Dan absolutely loved. Dan was always eager and happy to help out his family, friends, and neighbors. Dan also enjoyed shooting pool and was on the Jolly Dutchman (Ocqueoc Pub) Senior Pool League.
Dan will be sadly missed by his wife of 24 years, Joni Kazlauskas, of Onaway; his daughter, Lisa Kazlauskas Gaudet of Andover, Massachusetts; step-son, Rob (Jennifer) Mata of Waterford; granddaughters, Sophia and Rylee; father, Antanas "Tony" Kazlauskas of Onaway; brother, Anthony Kazlauskas of Onaway; and sister, Genie (Mark) Sikora of Thompson Station, Tennessee. Also surviving are Dan's nieces and nephews whom he was very close with, Lynn Reed, Harmony Postle, Rose Hawley, Skye McCann, Jason Kazlauskas, Max Barrick, and Michael Sikora. Preceding Daniel in death are his brother, Viktor Kazlauskas (1988); an infant sister, Regina Kazlauskas; and his mother, Elizabeth "Liz" Kazlauskas (Dec. 28, 2009). As were his wishes, Daniel was cremated. His family will receive friends on Sunday February 28, 2010 from 3 pm until the time of the memorial service at 4 pm at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway. Pastor Peter Bartlett will officiate. Dan's final resting place will be at North Allis Township Cemetery and some of his cremains will be scattered in his favorite places. Because of his love of animals Dan's family has suggested donations in his memory be directed to the Cheboygan County Humane Society, 1536 Hakelburg Rd., Cheboygan, MI 49721. |
