Christine M. Mero, age 87, of Black Lake (Onaway) died at home on January 18, 2010. Chris, the only child of John "Jack" and Leona May (Miller) Petchell was born in Onaway on November 26, 1922. She graduated from Onaway High School in 1942. In 1954 she was married to Kenneth Rood. They lived in Wayne, Michigan where Chris worked as a bookkeeper for the A & P Grocery Store. In 1968, after the death of her husband, Kenneth, Chris moved back home to Onaway. Chris bought the 211 Bar and operated it for the next five years. On November 6, 1974 Chris married Emmett T. Mero, Sr. in Rogers City. They made their home at Black Lake.
Chris enjoyed flower gardening and reading. She was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Emmett T. Mero, Sr. of Black Lake; four step-daughters, Jacqui Brown of Colorado Springs, CO, Marilyn Laurus, Faith Mereaux, and Lori Dennis, all of Bay City, MI; two step-sons, Emmett T. Mero, Jr. and Paul Mero, both of Bay City, Michigan; step son-in-law, Ron LaRouche of Bay City, Michigan; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Preceding Chris in death are her first husband, Kenneth Rood in 1968 and step-daughter, Marcia LaRouche in 1998. As were her wishes, Chris was cremated. Her ashes will be buried at North Allis Township Cemetery, north of Onaway. |
