Raymond A. Phillips, age 83, lifelong resident of Cheboygan, died on Tuesday July 27, 2010 at Hospice House in Cheboygan.  Raymond was born on February 2, 1927, the son of George and Thelma (Johnson) Phillips.  He attended and graduated from Cheboygan High School and then went on to serve in the United States Army for two years.  On January 9, 1967 Ray married Joyce J. Kendall in St. Ignace.

Ray worked for Sno-Kist Tree Farms for over 22 years and then went to work for Century Products, from where he retired.  He enjoyed woodcarving, reading, gardening, and berry picking.  Ray was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking his daughters to the fishing hole and the ice shanty.

Ray is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce J. Phillips of Cheboygan; his daughters, Mary (Ted) Whaley of Cheboygan and Loretta (Bart) Cunic of Crestview, Florida; one grandson, Matthew Cunic, also of Crestview, Florida; and one brother, Harold Phillips of Vermont.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carolyn Phillips; and one brother, Elmer Phillips.

Cremation has taken place. At this time no services have been planned.  Ray's family has suggested that donations in his memory be given to Hospice House of Cheboygan, 722 South St., Cheboygan, MI 49721.
