Obituaries

 Roy "Tiger" Rose, age 91, of Cheboygan, died at home on June 1, 2010.  Roy was born in Cheboygan on June 11, 1918, the son of Alfred and Marietta (Caswell) Rose.  He grew up in Cheboygan and in 1939 graduated from Cheboygan High School where he had been a high school football star.  He then enlisted in the Merchant Marine, saw the world, and served his country in World War Two.  After the War, Roy married Hannah M. Tober in Shelby, Ohio on May 11, 1946.  They made their home in the Battle Creek area where Roy worked as a cataloger for the Defense Supply Agency of the Federal Government.  After over thirty years of service Roy retired and he and Hannah traveled before returning to Roy's hometown of Cheboygan.  

Roy enjoyed John Wayne movies, watching sporting events, and swimming.  He was very athletic and was a Golden Gloves Boxer, "Tiger" Rose.  Roy's religious faith was very important to him.  

Roy is survived by three daughters, Leanne, Denise, and Lauralee; two sons, Tom and Ellery; sister, Eileen Fitch of Cheboygan; niece and caregiver, Marilyn Evans of Cheboygan; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Hannah; son, Ronnie; brother, Alfred; and sister, Ruth Szymanski.

Cremation arrangements have taken place.  Roy's final resting place will be with his wife Hannah, in Cheboygan, at Pine Hill Cemetery.  His family will have a private graveside service.  Donations in memory of Roy should be given to the Hospice House of Cheboygan.
