Obituaries

 Helen Marie Waldie, age 90, of Tower, died at home on Friday June 18, 2010.  She was born February 19, 1920 in Onaway to John Robert and Martha (Latsch) Mason.  In 1953, Helen married Charles Clifford Waldie in Angola, Indiana.

For over 30 years Helen worked as a seamstress at the garment factory in Onaway.  She then went to work at the UAW Education Center at Black Lake where she worked as a housekeeper, bus driver, and in maintenance.  Helen retired in 1986.  

Helen was a longtime and faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onaway, a member of the Progressive Club, and a former member of the Onaway VFW Women's Auxiliary.  Helen enjoyed dancing, gardening, painting, playing cards, and sewing.  She enjoyed making quilts, clothing, gowns, dolls, and stuffed animals.  She also was an avid reader and collector of  books.  Helen's family was extremely important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them.      

 Helen is survived by 7 children - Lila (Glenn) Chandler, Arla (Gary) Gilbert, Charles (Marjorie) Waldie, Susan (Thomas) Marcott, Charleen (Allan) Aniel, Lisha Waldie (Jerry Brewbaker) and Marcia Waldie (Jim Lenox); 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren;  brothers, Lloyd (June) and Franklin Delano(Alice) Mason and sisters, Isabelle DeRosia and Renetta (Erwin) Ganske.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Clifford Waldie in 1985; grandson, Ronald LaFave; brothers, Owen, Delano "Fats", Marvin, Edward, and Earl Mason and sisters, Maben Gage and Melba Covell. 

Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onaway from 10 AM until 3 PM on Tuesday, followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tower at 3:15 PM.  Pastor Joshua Ketelsen will officiate.  After the service there will be a dinner at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
