Obituary for Michael L. Fisher

Michael L. Fisher, age 64, of Onaway, died at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey on Wednesday November 13, 2019. Born in Onaway on May 27, 1955, Mike was the son of Robert L. and Helen (Moser) Fisher. For more than 40 years, Mike was a companion and faithful husband to Beverly (Tucker). They made a life together as soul mates and best friends, raising their family and enjoying their grandchildren.

Mike lived in Onaway for most of his life, leaving the area for only a few years to live downstate. With small-town living engrained in his being and a great love for Northern Michigan deep in his soul, Mike and Bev returned to Onaway to raise their family. Skilled in mechanics, Mike worked on heavy equipment and as a laborer. From the time he was a boy being raised in Onaway, outdoor activities were a big part of Mike’s life. He loved all the “Up North” stuff – fishing from a riverbank, hunting for deer, small game, and birds, picking morel mushrooms, and paddling the area rivers in a canoe. He also enjoyed hobby farming and taking care of his farm animals, but his greatest passion was his grandchildren. He was a proud grandpa who loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren -Haily, Hanna, Riley, Ben, Mason and Sophie.

A genuine person, Mike was well-liked, quite witty, and knew a little bit about everything. Kind-hearted, he didn’t have a mean bone in his body. Bev, the kids, and grandkids were his world and Mike would go to the ends of the earth to protect and care for them. Gone too soon, memories of Mike will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Surviving Mike is his wife, Bev Fisher of Onaway; daughters, Kacey Fisher of Onaway and Kelly (Matt) Drake of Indian River; son, Neil Fisher of Onaway; and the six grandchildren he adored. Mike also leaves his brothers, Jim (Deb) Palomaris and Steve (Claudia) Wright, both of Onaway; mother-in-law, Violet Tucker of Onaway; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Moser) Wright; grandparents, Fred and Freida Moser; father-in-law, Orvel Tucker; and two sisters-in-law, Donna and Mary.

Cremation arrangements are in care of Chagnon Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held next spring at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tower. Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider a donation in memory of Mike to his family to help with medical and final expenses.
